GOAT-ed – Significations of Venus in Capricorn

Venus in Capricorn

Late December 2021 is a moment of intensified Venusian extremity. Venus is retrograde in Capricorn, conjunct Pluto, along with the Sun and Mercury. Staring down the barrel of a Capricorn pile up can be an intimidating prospect – marking an extreme ending to an extreme year.

Muhammad Ali’s status as the “greatest of all time” (G.O.A.T) was immortalized in the common speak acronym for someone at the tip-top of performance in their arena. And this status is a fitting correlation for his natal Sun in Capricorn ruling the Ascendant. To be GOAT-ed is to have ascended to the highest peak of capacity, where none stands taller than you. Capricorn’s symbolic depiction as a goat-fish offers a similar analogy. The goat-fish is a creature who begins life in the dark depths, and works and grows and becomes more powerful, eventually leaving the water and climbing to the highest peak. This evolution suggests the range, longevity, dedication, pain, and reward that Saturn gives his hardest little worker.

Though not as much of a household name as many of his collaborators, Swedish music multi-hyphenate Max Martin is one of the most important creators of American radio pop in the last twenty years. His fingers have polished the crown jewel singles of artists like Katy Perry, Brittney Spears, Justin Timberlake, Ariana Grande, Maroon 5, Lady GaGa, The Weeknd, and Taylor Swift on songs like “Blank Space,” “…Baby One More Time,” “Dangerous Woman,” and “Can’t Feel My Face.”

Martin’s Venus in Capricorn trine Pluto in Virgo correlates with creativity expressed as a meticulous, multi-handed perfecting machine that leaves nothing to chance. He’s intensely dedicated to his craft and completes all production in-house before the singer is called in to lay down their vocals. Martin can take serious credit for elevating the pop culture mainstays his production machine has created.

Martin counts Britney Spears as one of his greatest successes. She was still a teenager but already an incredibly hard-training industry pro before she and Martin created her debut record “…Baby one More Time.” Many of the songs that went into her first album and the songs that went onto the Backstreet Boys Backstreet’s Back album were created in the same sessions, and tested with both artists. As the stars would have it, the creative chemistry was enough to inspire a generation, and Britney Spears proved to have a special longevity that set her apart from the vast swaths of nearly identical acts that crowded the 2000s radio and video networks. Creative longevity (or even just “music career”) may be the operative term for Venus in Capricorn, as both Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake have this placement natally.

Venus in Capricorn’s status as top of the creative heap also applies to greats in technology – both Steve Jobs and Bill Gates have Venus in Capricorn. The list of celebrities with Venus in Capricorn is remarkable in that so many of them are recognized as singular in their niche of creative work. Among them are Elvis Presley, Scarlett Johansson, Jim Carrey, Björk, James Dean, Dean Martin, Frank Sinatra, Tyra Banks, Cindy Crawford, RuPaul, Dolly Parton, Megan Thee Stallion, Christian Bale, David Lynch, Kid Kudi, and Alex Turner, vocalist for Arctic Monkeys. Venus in Capricorn also shows up in the charts of those with power, money, and influence such as Walt Disney, Pablo Escobar, Joan of Arc, Grigori Rasputin, and Ludwig van Beethoven.

Most notably on this Venus in Capricorn list, in keeping with the spirit of the GOAT, is one of the most legendary athletic superstars-turned-business empires of all time – Michael Jordan.

Looking at this list of notable achievers, we might ask, “Does a Venus Capricorn natal placement guarantee success?” That’s not a guarantee. However, we can say with some authority that Venus in this cardinal earth sign suggests learning through struggles of the heart, and a need to develop creative discipline and integrity for best results.

Something of the spirit of Venus in Capricorn is captured in Christian Bale’s character’s monolog at the beginning of American Psycho, emphasizing a dedication to beauty, at constant risk of the heart becoming hardened beyond recognition. Bale has natal Venus at 29° Capricorn and retrograde.

Constantly searching for a more equitable co-regulation with the Earth and Stars. If I’m not negating the influence of the Plutocracy I’m faded on the beach looking for a natal chart more perfect than Rihanna’s.
