Mars Conjunct Jupiter in Aries

Jupiter enters Aries May 11, 2022 at 00.22 GMT. Mars will be conjunct Jupiter May 29, 2022 3º19′ Aries @11.30 GMT.

The mandala pictured here (made with the ACS program “Astrological Mandalas”) shows the orbital relationship between Jupiter and Mars (ruler of Aries), as viewed from the Earth. The star it makes has eleven points, numerologically interesting because eleven is often considered as the number of ‘new beginnings’ (while ten is a number of completion).

New understanding dawns, favoring action and endeavor with new initiatives which have been in preparation over the last couple of years, since the last conjunction of Jupiter and Mars March 20, 2020, when both were applying to the conjunction of Pluto and Saturn!

By then, the whole world was either already in lockdown, or arguing about whether it was necessary, how and when to do it, and so on. The symbolism is amazingly literal: to enact or accomplish something, we had to go about it in a Capricornian way. Slowly, carefully, patiently; working around restrictions, engaging our maturity; being aware that individual initiatives might grind to a halt altogether as we came up against the authorities, bureaucracies, rules and regulations arising out of the prevailing group-think.

We met the proverbial blocks, delays and obstacles of Saturn/Capricorn both inwardly and outwardly. The scythe of Saturn pruned many things, or cut them down completely. Our life was also cleared of weeds, giving tender new plants a better chance of thriving. And many of us endured grievous losses. All very Saturnian.

The zodiac sign of a conjunction between Mars and Jupiter speaks to the initiatives into which we will invest our time, money and energy. The sign offers some hints as to the most propitious manner with which to proceed. The moral, philosophical and spiritual values (Jupiter) which underpin our actions (Mars) are also shown. In this 2022 cycle, we will confront the best and the worst of the sign of Aries.

We are released into forward motion and action, but are also cautioned about not overdoing it or being hasty and unwise. Recall that Capricorn is the sign of the exaltation of Mars. Why should that be? I think of the fact that having a noble focus (Capricorn) is likely to bring out the best of Mars and to avoid random reactivity. Action, rather than RE-action!

Lessons learned from the conditions of restraint which have prevailed since the last Mar-Jupiter conjunction make a good base, or even a springboard of inspiration for the strong infusion of Mars energy as Jupiter enters Aries.

Astrologer Dane Rudhyar had natal Sun in Aries, and it seems fitting to include the eloquent and evocative words of the “Father of Modern Astrology” on this subject. Read the Aries section of “The Pulse of Life“, along with many other Rudhyar treasures to be found on the Khaldea.com website.

We might also gain inspiration from the following proverb:

“It is better to light a single candle than to curse the darkness”.

This proverb, variously attributed, offers some important wisdom for these times as waves of darkness seem to be enveloping the Earth. On our home planet we experience the alternation of day and night, symbolizing the primal opposites of masculine and feminine, light and dark, etc. Indeed, perhaps one of our spiritual tasks while living here on Earth is precisely to become aware of polarities and binaries on all levels, and to find our individual way of accepting and working with them.

In amongst the duplicity, the unthinkable destruction, suffering and horror which abound, we also find luminous stories of courage, bravery, heartfulness. May we look out for, or even venture to light, these ‘single candles,’ the delicate flames which light our way in the darkness. And may we care for them.

Case in point – do check out ‘Positive News’. This magazine does what it says – it brings us (true!) positive news. Its roots go back to the 1980s, when it was a ‘single candle’ and now it has become a large international community benefit organization.

With blessings,
