YEAR ONE - 2019-2020

Course 1: Intro to Astrological Symbols

Instructor: Tony Howard

In this course you will learn the basic symbols necessary for deeper astrological study: 14 Planetary Symbols, 12 Signs, and 12 houses.

If you’ve been ready to jump into learning astrology, and don’t know where to start, or you’re looking for a structured program that will help you feel confident practicing astrology for yourself or others, this is the perfect place to begin.

  • Week 1: Astrology, planetary archetypes and the wonder of the night sky
  • Week 2: The 12 signs as expressions of embodied experience
  • Week 3: The 12 Houses and intro to house systems
  • Week 4: Setting up a chart, using the ephemeris and identifying planetary speed

You’ll also learn how to set up a chart in an astrology program (includes demonstrations for Solar Fire, Win*Star, and Sirius), how to use the ephemeris, and how to choose a house system to begin your study.

Required text: The Contemporary Astrologer’s Handbook by Sue Tompkins (purchase separately before the course starts)
Recommended supplementary texts: The Modern Textbook of Astrology by Margaret Hone; The Inner Sky by Steven Forrest; Astrology for Yourself by Demetra George​

Course includes: four video classes, four live Q&A sessions, weekly reading assignments and homework. Video, audio and handouts are available to view and/or download. Certification students will have graded homework assignments and an exam.

Course 2: The Elements, Modalities and Polarities

Course 3: The Inner Planets – Mercury, Venus and Mars

Course 6: Major Aspects

You will learn the symbolism of the 6 major aspects: Conjunction, Opposition, Square, Sextile, Trine, and Quincunx  –

Course 7: Introduction to Cosmos and Psyche: Planets, Aspects, Natal and Mundane Correlations

Course 8: Houses Systems – Exploration and Application

Required texts: Houses by Deborah Houlding; A Handbook for Humanistic Astrologers by Michael Meyer

Course 9: Chart Synthesis 101

Instructors: Tony Howard, Frank Clifford, Mark Jones
How to blend archetypes, how to “hear” aspects in a person’s biographical material.
Mark Jones will  teach his “Rainbow Lense” concept of how the planets “see” each other.

Optional Summer Retreat In Person in Bend, OR

July 18-22, 2020

Join us for a summer retreat in person. We’ll spend extra time integrating what we’ve learned in year one. In addition, as a group, you’ll select topics from the first year that you’d like to explore deeper and we’ll work through charts of participants and famous figures throughout the retreat.

You’ll get to know other students in the program and have fun deepening your learning experience in a beautiful natural setting.

Option One: 2-day Weekend retreat July 18-19
Option 2: 5-day retreat July 18-22 (Includes one-day nature outing along the Deschutes river with night sky viewing at a local observatory)

ABOUT COURSE ENROLLMENT

Our program courses are offered a la carte. You can choose to join the course live, or enroll after the live presentation and watch the recordings. Online discussion is monitored regularly whether the course is live or pre-recorded, so all students will get direct feedback and response to questions.
