Psychologizing Sect Bundle

Psychologizing Sect Series – Night, Day, and Twilight Consciousness

In this 3-part webinar series, we will explore the ancient astrological concept of sect, the idea that certain planets, signs, houses, and even aspects are adherents or followers of either Night or Day.  But where ancient astrology pursued the Daytime task of using sect to assess planetary condition and effectiveness, we will take a more psychological Nighttime approach, freeing ourselves from the distinctions of Day charts versus Night charts, and instead investigate the Day and Night spaces found in every chart – and the self-states (constellations of thoughts, feelings, sensations, desires, and relational orientations) that these represent psychologically.

We will explore the mythological stories and philosophical concepts of Day and Night, and specifically look at these concepts applied to planets, signs, houses, and aspects in the natal chart.  Case studies drawn from long-term psychotherapy will examine how Night and Day consciousness emerge, recede, and pendulate at different times in life and in the process of fully embodying one’s inherent multiplicity over time.

We will also explore Twilight – a special in-between space and state of consciousness that describes astrology itself, as well as the domain of Mercury, traditional ruler of astrology who only ever appears in a twilit sky.  Twilight consciousness bridges Night and Day and offers creative opportunities to each person and to astrologers in our work with clients.  As well, we will consider how some special astrological phenomena – such as solar eclipses, literally the temporary entry of Night into Day – can be better understood through the lens of sect, psychologized.

Webinar 1: Planets and Signs: The Cohorts of Night, Day, and Twilight

In this webinar, we will introduce ancient sect doctrine, and explore especially its philosophical roots and the possibility of bringing psychological imagination to bear on it.  We will distinguish the two sects of Day and Night, their planetary adherents, and the signs that were correlated to them. We will also introduce the concept of Twilight. We will then consider how this deepens and enriches our understanding of each of the planets and signs, as well as our understanding of how to engage and work with them in our lives, through case studies drawn from long-term psychotherapy and experiential astrology group work.

Webinar 2: Aspects: How Planets See and Interact with Each Other By Day and By Night

In this webinar, we will consider how the different astrological aspects operate to induce Day, Night, and Twilight processes in the psyche.  The application of sect to aspects offers a profound means of understanding the interplay of intrapsychic and interpersonal processes that trend toward unity, coherence, and heroism; as well as intrapsychic and interpersonal processes that trend toward multiplicity, decentering, and vulnerability.  Through the lens of night and day, we can view multiple systems of interaction and how these are ‘lit up’ by transiting and progressed aspects as well.

Webinar 3: Houses: The 12 Places along the Day Journey and Night Journey of Planets

In this webinar, we will briefly explore hemispheric concepts of the Day and Night sectors of the chart.  But we will primarily focus on two journeys through the houses based on the originating logic of the meanings of the twelve places: the diurnal motion of the Sun through the sky, clockwise through the chart.  Adding a psychological and mythopoetic imagination to this leads us to see an underlying coherence in the structure of the houses that traces an underworld journey of Night (from Houses 8-3) and an upperworld journey of Day (from Houses 2-9).   We will amplify these journeys through ancient mythology, and then consider how to apply this material to modern lives through delineating the meanings of planets in houses through case study.

The Gate of Hades!

This whole series is mindblowing. My favorite video was probably part 3 with the Gate of Hades - Abandon All Hope! Whenever I listen to Jason, my imagination becomes more and more free, and it's almost as if the whole of my life, while allowed to be more complex, also becomes more synthesized. Thank you Jason!!

Psychologizing Sect Review

I thought the content of this series was excellent and inspiring. I came away feeling even more intrigued about the concepts of daytime and nighttime consciousness, and also with welcome insights into house interpretation from the perspective of sect. I appreciated our teachers knowledge of both traditional and psychological astrology and I thought the content was both inspiring and useful. My only critique is that it felt like we either did not use our time as efficiently as we could have or perhaps more time could have been allowed (after an initial 2 hour cut off) so that we could explore the full range of material that Jason Holley intended to share with us. Nevertheless, I found this series incredibly helpful and inspiring, as well as practically useful in beginning to consider these concepts more deeply. I am very grateful.

Psychologizing Sect - parts 1, 2 & 3

"Child of Mercury" Jason calls himself during part 1 of this lecture... for sure! He is bursting with thoughts and ideas and keeps you entertained with all of it. He is articulate and as high speed. He will give you a lot of ideas which you can then use to explore on your own. As he repeats - he is trying to start a conversation. On this front part 1 is most stimulating and useful - and throughout all the parts he throws in new ideas and things to consider. Part 2 and 3, I felt were less stimulating however. Mostly because i think he is moving so fast to try and go through the information and has traveled down a few more tangents than anticipated that it feels like the practical information is rushed through and very little offered in terms of how to apply and work with these ideas. If you want structured, clear, step-by-step process and information than maybe this will be disappointing, however!...if you are looking to be well entertained and have your idea circuits stimulated so that you can go and chew on this later for yourself, than i think this series could be just what you want. It is obvious from this lecture series that he has a bias against the "day sect", which is ok when presenting information initially and i think it is necessary to balance our perspectives, but it does start to feel a bit "ranty" when repeated in parts 2 & 3 and detracts from what i think his main point is : that we need not only the night sect, but the day sect too and the qualities that go between and bridge the polarities. I hope that Jason keeps putting out his work as he has a really amazing mind and brings such a fresh and delightful perspective. He is really quite funny and insightful. But i also hope that he keeps working on his presentation, timing and structure, so that his brilliance can be accessible to folks who might need that for learning, retention and application. I am on a very tight budget and this was my first experience with Jason's work and style. While i would gratefully listen to anything free that he had available (he really does give a lot of great food for thought), i would have to think hard before trying more of his lectures as they left me feeling really full and kinda empty at the same time. I do best with more structure and practiced presentation for learning... not everyone needs the same.
