In this course Brian Clark shares an introduction to analyzing relationships using the technique of “synastry” – looking at the connections between chart features in two charts. Synastry can be used to think about any relationship between two people: romantic pairings, longterm relationships, parent-child, siblings, co-workers, etc. We’ll teach the theory of chart combining and work through several examples to apply this complex but profound technique. You won’t come away with simple recipes for “which signs are most compatible”. Instead you’ll learn how planets can relate to each other, for ways that two people can work with the charts they have for more successful and fulfilling relating.
Class 1: Synastry Steps: An Astrological Overview to the Dynamics of Relating
We begin our study of the fine art of relationship astrology and interaction by constructing a framework to consider how two horoscopes interact and interconnect with each another. And most importantly, how this might be experienced in the context of their relationship. We will start with one natal chart, then introduce that to the other.
Class 2: Planets in Synastry
Each natal planet has its own astrological signature, which characterizes its nature and temperament in our personal experience. How might that dispositional nature be met by others? How do these two planets understand each other? We will explore each planetary archetype in context of its interaction with its counterpart and other planets in a partner’s horoscope.
Class 3: Chart Comparison and Interaction
In this class we will use the partner’s charts to create bi-wheels and aspect grids which will help us to articulate the energy systems and synergy of the relationship. We will examine the impact of our planets on our partner’s environment and vice versa, as well as examining patterns and inter-aspects of the relationship.
Class 4: Timing and Transitions in Relationship
Each relationship has its own cycles, phases and timing. We will reflect on the nature of relationship transition using astrological timing, as well as other horoscopes that can be created at these times: the meeting chart, the marriage or commitment chart, etc. As this is the final class in our course, we will spend some time reflecting on how we begin to use these astrological tools to assist us in becoming more present and available in our relationships.
