The Mars-Venus activity takes place in February in Capricorn, within the context of the conjunctions between Jupiter, Nessus (a.k.a. ‘The Buck Stops Here’!) and Neptune. This suggests a revealing of past experiences in relationships which may have crystallized into mental patterns which define our perceptions and expectations as regards present and future relationships.

Capricorn values the past, and may fight vigorously to defend against a different future. The Mars-Venus conjunction, coming into range in the second week of February, may draw back the veil and show us where and how we are caught in our own mental structures. There might be unfinished business to do with our desires (Mars), values, and  heart-experiences (Venus). We will also be given the courage to attend to this in whatever way feels appropriate. To forgive? To grieve? To give thanks? To make contact again? To understand more deeply? This is a very individual process asking to be honored. Deep personal choices may also arise from this consideration, aided by Pluto (see below).

The hard edges of this conjunction can bring clarity and insight about our relationship life. This applies to all personal relationships, not only romantic relationships. Once Mars and Venus shift into Pisces in April, the possibility arises of allowing these hard edges to melt and dissolve into tenderness – both for ourselves as well as others.

Neptune is the modern co-ruler of Pisces, which is also the sign of the exaltation of Venus. This watery energy can soften old decisions, pledges or grudges, and cleanse the mind of “I should …” or “I’ll never …” or “I’m hopeless …”, or “I failed at  …” and instead allow us to gently land in that which is true for us at a deeper level. Honesty could bring in new energy here and allow our spiritual resources to shine through.

Note also that Mars and Venus both make conjunctions with Pluto (March 3, 2022) just before they enter Aquarius, where they conjunct each other (March 6). Whenever faster moving planets connect with Pluto, we can be sure of extra intensity, anchored in transformational processes.

This first degree of Aquarius is also where the Jupiter-Saturn conjunction occurred in December 2020, suggesting that this cluster of activity is an important marker of the out-working of this still-new longer-term cycle, ushering in something new. May it be so! And may we greet it with tenderness and gratitude.

Consider where Capricorn and Pisces are located in your own chart (houses). Then contemplate these questions over these next weeks:

  • What do I value most at this time? (Venus)
  • Are there strategies needed (Mars) to honor this?
  • Where do I need to hold on (Capricorn) and where do I need to let go (Pisces)?
